11 | | Today is the last day of the NERC ATSC summer school in Barrax, Spain. During yesterday’s flight (15.06.17) we supported 22 scientists on the ground with a series of flights over nearby Las Tiesas farm site in Barrax, Spain, using VNIR, SWIR & LWIR instruments (and a 100mp digital camera). This was part of an NERC ATSC summer school and although very hot both the field and airborne surveys were a success. Today we are conducting three flights separated through-out the day to investigate land surface temperature (LST). The key airborne instrument in our suite for this is our LWIR imaging spectrometer (Specim Owl). This group (separate from the summer school and led by Martin Wooster) seek to develop methods for deriving LST/surface spectral emissivity algorithms for retrieving LST and SSE simultaneously and has the potential to validate satellite-based retrieval of LST and SSE. |

13 | | Tomorrow (17.06.17) we plan to fly over a study site near Valencia to collect data for the validation of the operational and user-generated vegetation products derived from the optical instruments on-board ESA’s Sentinel-2 and -3. This is to support another project in this area (and supports work by a research team led by Jadu Dash). |
