#409 | fixed | EUFAR11/02, flight day 187/2011, Svalbard | knpa | anch |
Description |
Data location: /users/rsg/arsf/arsf_data/2011/flight_data/svalbard/EUFAR11_02-2011_187_SVALBD_PGLACIAL Data arrived from ARSF via network transfer on 13/07/2011 EUFAR11/02 Scientific objective: Paraglacial slope adjustment is rapid and poorly understood. It takes the form of rockfalls, debris flows and gullying – all of which involve the erosion and deposition of significant quantities of sediment. The global trend of glacial retreat means these processes are becoming much more widespread. Better understanding of the processes that bring about post-glacial slope adjustment leads to better understanding of (1) Potential hazards in downstream habitation (2) The global sediment budget (3) The formation of relict glacial landscapes.
